The Ligbron eLearning Project is an award-winning community and educational project that expands the horizons of learners in participating schools using state of the art technology provided by Edit Microsystems.
Using video and desktop sharing in an advanced remote collaboration platform called Bridgit, Ligbron Academy of technology and several underperforming schools in Mpumalanga share mathematics and science lessons, in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning for all learners.
The idea for the project began when Ligbron was intermittently approached by rural schools for help with mathematics and science. Wanting to have a greater impact in the lives of the learners at these rural schools, Ligbron sought to devise a smarter way to assist these schools on a day to day basis. Through technology, a specialist subject teacher from Ligbron can link up with the other classrooms to deliver interactive lessons – assisting the teacher and the learners in those classrooms on a daily basis. The project was officially launched in 2008. All of the software and hardware, as well as the training on the technology, required for the project were provided by Edit Microsystems. The schools use SMART Boards, SMART Notebook software, Bridgit remote conferencing software, and Yenka virtual laboratories for mathematics and science. m
The Ligbron eLearning Project has had an incredible impact on the school results, as well as the lives of the learners, and has won several awards over the years. This has led to the expansion of the project to other schools around the province.
